Workshop 5: Practical Skills RSVP

This workshop aims at preparing you for the workplace from creating your personal brand for job hunting to negotiating and accepting/declining a job offer. We are excited to provide you with insights from two experts on the job-hunting process! The workshop will be given by Ashley Carlson, Assistant Director of Postdoctoral Affairs at KUMC, who advises grads and post-docs on careers and job-hunting, and Julie Burkhart, Director of Community Engagement at KU, a long-time talent recruiter at Sprint, currently working with the many corporations, non-profits and start-ups in our area to connect KU grads.

Why is this workshop useful for you? This workshop will cover the ins and outs of what can be a confusing process and provide the most important skills that any job candidate should acquire for a successful job application and acquisition. Ashley and Julie will address:

  1. Preparing yourself for job hunting
  2. Finding a job
  3. Applying for a job
  4. Interviewing for a job
  5. Negotiating and accepting/declining a job offer
